Frequently Asked Questions

Our programs and services are for anyone in a caregiving position who is struggling with the challenges of raising a child. Our programs focus on youth and adolescents who are struggling with any behavioral or mental health issue. We work to ensure complete mental wellness in the child/adolescent, and to teach parents/caregivers strategies to keep youth on track.

If you are concerned about a child’s behavior…we are here to help. From a child who will not stay in bed at night or who cannot hold their focus and follow instructions, to a child who is having aggressive outbursts due to trauma…we have crafted services to help all children in learning to manage their emotions and teaching parents and caregivers strategies to help turn negative behaviors into positive ones.

Highly trained staff at Behaven Kids will help each family identify applicable funding resources. Assistance may be available through private insurance, school districts, state child welfare agencies or Medicaid. We also accept private pay. Do not let pricing concerns stop you from making an appointment to learn more about our services.

We can help children and adolescents of all ages through our various services, such as individual/family therapy and psychiatric services. We are available to assist all levels of behavior and mental health conditions and service all different populations based on the service you are utilizing.

Behaviors range from simply not listening to directions to severe aggression. Some examples include eating problems, verbal aggression, screaming, physical violence such as hitting, kicking, and biting, property damage and destruction, potty training, bed wetting, bowel movement problems and fears, asking permission, sharing, non-compliance, defiance, anger, lying, getting along with other children and acting out impulsively.

If your child has been evaluated and has been diagnosed with a behavior disorder, oppositional defiance disorder, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), be assured that most of our children in the Specialized Day Program are commonly showing behaviors in these categories.

Please call the program nearest you for a free consultation and to schedule a program tour. We want every parent to feel comfortable and confident with the decision to partner with Behaven Kids. A referral from a doctor, school or counselor is not necessary.

Referrals are accepted from anyone who desires help for a troubled family – just call the program nearest you. Families can contact Behaven Kids directly, or referrals can be made through social service workers, school professionals or others.

Behaven Kids ABA program provides active treatment services to all clients served. Each client will receive an Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP), which is supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and Supervising Practitioner. Specific goals and interventions are identified in the ITP, with discharge plans being developed at the time of service inception. Treatment progress and progress toward discharge goals are reviewed on a weekly basis.

The Behaven Kids ABA Program is a community based, multi-component treatment program designed to increase useful behaviors and reduce those that may cause harm or interfere with learning. The ABA program is developed to produce improvements in communication, social relationships, play, self-care, school, and ultimately employment. The program combines supportive and psychoeducational services with training and consultation. This includes but is not limited to:

• educational services
• discrete trial training
• parent education
• social skills development
• de-escalation techniques
• modeling
• reinforcement

An emphasis will be placed on individualized and intensive intervention programs for individuals diagnosed with autism or related diagnosis. The techniques utilized include prompting and modeling of behavior for children, encouragement and reinforcement of desired behaviors, and reducing behaviors that may cause harm or interfere with learning. Parent involvement is also key in the success of the children, therefore parents will receive training in order to support learning and skill practice in the natural environment. Each of these parenting practices has a solid base of research supporting its use.

The direct care staff will be directly supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a Supervising Practitioner (Ph.D. or LIMHP). The direct care staff will follow the treatment plan developed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst and licensed therapist in order to assist the child and parent in learning new skills. The direct care staff will provide treatment services in the clinic, home, school, day care or other community location. The direct care staff will continually assess the needs of the child and family and assist in skill development by implementing the treatment plan supervised by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst and licensed therapist. Weekly progress is documented by the direct care staff, and reviewed and signed off on by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
